The traditional New Year’s Eve swim at Lake Achensee has become an established date in the region’s event calendar. On 31 December, from 12.00, the lake promenade in Pertisau will again be the venue for this spectacular event. Intrepid adventurers, swimmers in disguise and numerous spectators will meet and celebrate the end of the year.
Four degrees Celsius water temperature, a three metre jump and swimming a distance of 50 metres – these are the challenges for an unparalleled turn-of-the-year event. In each round, two swimmers will take the plunge into the freezing waters, at the same time fighting against competitors and their weaker self. After jumping from the jetty, they have to cover a distance of 25 metres to an inflatable floating iceberg, climb it, ring the New Year’s Eve bell and finally swim back to the shore.
2020 can come
The three winners who come closest to the median finishing time of all participants can look forward to a total prize money of 1,000 euros. The event is open to both competitive swimmers and creative water enthusiasts. In the FUN category, the most original costumes will be rewarded with applause and material prizes. Members of the diving club “Black Divers Tirol” will throw a bucket of lake water at swimmers to prepare them for the challenge.
