Hiking at lake Achensee

Lake Achensee is surrounded by two mountain ranges, whose appearances are unique in themselves. The Rofan and Karwendel mountains boast 500 kilometres of marked and well maintained hiking trails, providing the best conditions to enjoy an unforgettable hiking holiday.

Breathtaking natural landscape

The Rofan mountains to the east of Achensee are craggy and soft at the same time. On the high plateau, gentle paths climb over lush meadows to the peaks, whose rock faces fall away precipitously on the other side. The Karwendel mountains which lie to the west provide a special habitat for the wildlife and have the highest population of golden eagles in the Alps. Nature Park Karwendel is the largest nature reserve in the Northern Alps and a Tirolean Nature Park. The flora and fauna in this sensitive environment are conservation protected, which means genuine adventures in the natural surroundings are guaranteed.

Extensive offer

The region provides its guests with 500 kilometres of well maintained and signposted hiking trails. The offer ranges from easy, flat trails, such as into the Karwendel valleys from Pertisau, to leisurely ‘family tours’, to challenging routes including ‘conquering the peaks’. The Rofan cable car and Karwendel cable car can be used to cover the first climbs and are perfect ‘ascent aids’, making it possible for you to enjoy an easy-going mountain adventure, without great exertion.

‘Quality hiking is on offer at Lake Achensee. The region has for many years been awarded with the Tirolean Seal of Quality for the high standard of the hiking paths.’

Popular tours

Tours in the Karwendel mountains provide special summit adventures, such as the 2457 metre Sonnjoch, from which you get a breathtaking panoramic view across the region, and the Montscheinspitze at 2106 metres, which requires a great deal of surefootedness to climb. There are countless opportunities to enjoy leisurely, less demanding Alpine hikes which are on no account inferior, thanks to the panoramic views. Some of these alpine lodges are serviced and genuine Tirolean hospitality awaits you, accompanied by traditional tasty home-cooked food.
A combined lake hike and boat trip along with the idyllic route on Achensee’s car-free west bank to the ‘Gaisalm’ is a wonderful, ‘more leisurely’ addition to the hiking offers.
