The Karwendel cable car, a popular excursion destination at Lake Achensee, is characterized by easy accessibility from Tirol and southern Bavaria. The car park at the entrance and the step-less access to the platform are ideal. The gondolas, with a door width of 90 cm, remain stationary for easy boarding. A barrier-free toilet is located directly in the valley station.
Experience the Karwendel mountains barrier-free
From the mountain station on the Zwölferkopf you have a magnificent view of the Karwendel mountain range and of course Lake Achensee. On the mountain, plain gravel roads are wide enough for wheelchairs, also in combination with a Swiss-Trac. In winter, parts of the hiking trails can be accessed with a sledge. Skiers will find 1 platter lift, 2 drag lifts and 1 ski conveyor at Zwölferkopf. In total, the ski area has 10km of blue and red slopes.
Rest and refreshment
A tip for a stopover is the Alpengasthaus Karwendel, which is easily accessible via an approx. 100m long gravel path with an elevation change of approx. 12m. The cosy restaurant has 80 seats and is also suitable for events or parties. The spacious sun terrace affords beautiful views and is well worth a visit. Large umbrellas provide shade and keep you dry, so you can enjoy your stay to the full. Please note that the barrier-free toilet is located in the valley station, ascent and descent to access the toilet are free of charge.

The Tiroler Steinöl Museum Vitalberg tells the unique and exciting story of Family Albrecht and the work of the shale oil (Steinöl) distillers of the Bächental valley. The museum which resembles a mining gallery is barrier-free; the tours are offered with audio guides in several languages. The museum and shop are located on the ground floor, on the first floor visitors can enjoy refreshments in the panorama cafe/bar. The entire Vitalberg museum is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
