Via ferratas, a series of metal ladders, holds and rails fixed into cliffs and rock faces following a set route, are becoming increasingly popular. Located beneath the Erfurter Hütte, the new “Felix and Charlotte family via ferrata” is ideal to introduce children to climbing. A large section of the via ferrata leads over the property of Rudolf Hollaus, and therefore the route was named after his children Felix (9) and Charlotte (4).
The first ascent with Felix and Charlotte Papa Rudolf is especially pleased: “It was my special wish to dedicate this family-friendly climbing route to my children. The finished via ferrata is very beautiful and a perfect start for beginners. I’m very happy that my children were allowed the first ascent.”
Climbing camps 2020 are bookable now The holiday region Achensee offers eight via ferratas in the Rofan and Karwendel mountains. A special highlight among climbers is the 5-summit via ferrata. At two kilometres long, it is one of Austria’s longest via ferratas. The route leads to the surrounding peaks of Haidachstellwand, Rosskopf, Seekarlspitze, Spieljoch and Hochiss. Again next year, several of the local via ferratas can be experienced accompanied by certified guides: The Achensee climbing camps focus on planning, technique, equipment and safety and are suitable for beginners and advanced climbers. Next year’s camps are open for registration now.
