One of the top events in Tirol, the Karwendelmarsch offers long-distance hikers, Nordic walkers and runners an amazing nature and sports experience in unspoilt nature.
This year will see the 11th edition of the sporting highlight which is organized by the tourist offices of Achensee and the Olympiaregion Seefeld. Participants must complete 52 or 35 kilometres in their preferred activity, traversing Austria’s largest nature park from Scharnitz to Pertisau. Every year, the demand for the 2,500 starting positions is high. During the event, 10 refreshment stations will provide drinks and regional delicacies.
A joint effort for sustainability
True to the motto to promote a sustainable development of the event, the organizers are happy to implement ideas and suggestions put forward by participants. For example, the suggestion that only fully recyclable paper cups be used at refreshment stations has been realized.
“For us, the Karwendelmarsch is a matter of great importance. After we were allowed to establish the ‘new’ Karwendelmarsch more than 10 years ago, receiving the renewed permit under nature conversation legislation in 2017 for another 5 years was both recognition and encouragement. Every year, the event presents an opportunity to show that we all have to work together to ensure that our unique natural landscape remains a desirable destination and experience for future generations”, says Tourism Director Martin Tschoner.
Offers centering on the event
This year, the starting positions were sold even faster than last year. Those who still want to experience the “Karwendelmarsch feeling” can join the Karwendelmarsch training camps which occur in Seefeld and at Lake Achensee on a rotational basis.
