- Sights in Maurach
St. Notburga Pilgrimage Church in Maurach is worth a visit. In the 13th century, probably the most popular Tirolean patron saint, a simple maid Notburga, was not dissuaded by her hard-hearted employers from her beliefs and her dedication to help the poor and the weak. The Notburga-Museum in Eben/Maurach exhibits a great deal of interesting features about her life and her significance as a patron saint of farmers and maidservants, the poor and traditional costume wearers.
Interesting information about fine distillates, their production and much more is on offer at the distillery Edelbrennerei Franz Kostenzer. Around 70 schnapps and liqueurs are on offer and you can learn all about them during guided tours or during seminars.
In Achensee’s Museum World, a ‘museum village’ covering an area of around 8 hectares, the focus is on local traditions, such as the working and living conditions around Achensee, which were often not that easy in earlier times. Lots of interesting information about local associations, institutions and entertainment, such as a doll’s house, round off the museum experience. Since the Museum World is being continually expanded there is always something new to discover.
